About the Event
In this fabulous programme of music that emanated from that hotbed of creativity that was Venice in the Renaissance and early Baroque period, Opus 48 will be singing both better-known works and ‘incredible music that you may have never heard’. The line-up of composers reveals the astonishing wealth of talent that inhabited the city where ‘In every house, someone is playing a musical instrument or singing. There is music everywhere.’ While the works of Gabrieli, Lotti and Monteverdi may not need much introduction, (they are well known for the simple reason of their utter genius), the Vivaldi Credo showcases the ebullience and brilliance of the man and the Cavalli Magnificat brings out the dramatic side of this operatic composer. The Missa Defunctoris of Jomelli, meanwhile, is a work of the most exquisite beauty, an overlooked gem. This concert will transport and delight, with wonderful musicians and the voices of Opus 48 under the direction of David Crown.
